2027 High Island Patch

2027 Request for Proposal (RFP): 2027 High Island Patch

Introduction

Houston Audubon is seeking a professional wildlife illustrator to initiate a new era for our High Island Sanctuary Admissions Patches. This annual series has run since 1989 and is a cornerstone of our visitor experience and conservation funding. We are looking for an artist to become the long-term "signature voice" for our patches starting with the 2027 season.

Project Scope & Deliverables

  • One (1) Annual Illustration: Delivered by October 15, 2026.
    • Selection: Houston Audubon will select and inform you of the bird species by August 15. Your input is welcome.
    • Scientific Accuracy: The illustration must be ornithologically precise (plumage, anatomy, posture).
    • Technical Design: The art must be optimized for embroidery on a 3-inch circular patch (avoiding overly thin lines or extreme color gradients that don't translate to thread).
  • Design Elements: The bird illustration plus integrated text: "High Island Sanctuaries," "2027," and "Organization Name"
  • File Formats: High-resolution digital files (ability to work directly with our printer)

Compensation & Rights

  • Commission Fee: Please provide your standard rate for a single commercial illustration of this scope.
  • Finalist Honorarium: If selected as a finalist, you will be paid a $150 honorarium to create a rough concept sketch to demonstrate your style.
  • Unlimited Usage Rights: Upon final payment, Houston Audubon will hold full and exclusive ownership of the artwork. This includes unlimited, perpetual, and worldwide rights to use, reproduce, and modify the artwork across all media, including but not limited to patches, apparel, merchandise, digital platforms, and promotional materials.

Submission Instructions

Please submit the following to zseth@houstonaudubon.org by July 15, 2026:
