Sweetwater Nature Preserve Urban Bird Survey

Next Survey: July 1, 2025, starting at 7 AM

Survey Leader: Lisa Hardcastle

We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 AM at the end of 103rd Street in Galveston. We will drive short distances to three separate areas to explore. The survey takes three – four hours, although it is possible to leave early as needed. Closed-toe shoes are critical, and boots are recommended. Be sure to wear a hat and bring sunscreen, bug spray and plenty of water. Contact Lisa Hardcastle at lisa.hardcastle@gmail.com to RSVP.

About the Sweetwater Nature Preserve

This survey takes you to a private property owned by the Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) and not open to the public. It contains 13,000 acres of critical coastal habitat in and around Galveston Bay. The property contains a mixture of habitats including coastal prairie, estuarine marsh, salt flats, freshwater wetlands, brackish wetlands, and coastal woodlots. Expected bird sightings include wading birds, waterfowl, and raptors, and many other bird species.
