About the Sanctuary

Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary (ELMNS) is a Houston Audubon property donated by Edith L. Moore in 1975 upon her passing. The site is a 17.5 acre bird sanctuary located along Rummel Creek in Memorial, with about 1.5 miles of trails, that also serves as the headquarters for the Houston Audubon Staff, and Native Plant Nursery. ELMNS is a mixed pine-hardwood forest with poorly drained clay soils, and an artificial wetland pumped in from the creek. ELMNS has over 200 species of bird documented on eBird, and it is not uncommon to find some exciting birds such as a Barred Owl, Chuck-wills Widow, Brown Creepers, and a variety of warblers in the spring and summer. Birders of all skill levels are welcome.
