Meet us at this internationally known birding hot spot and help us beautify one of our 4 nature sanctuaries here, improving both the visitor infrastructure and wildlife habitat. This is a great opportunity to get outside while making a difference.

Volunteers who help out at High Island Work Days are treated to a delicious meal prepared by our lunch crew.

Work Days are held once a month, October through March on the second Saturday of the month. We start work around 8:30 AM and work until about noon, when we break for lunch, provided by Houston Audubon and prepared by the lunch crew. Lunch at the picnic area of Boy Scout Woods is a good chance to visit with other volunteers and recharge from a morning of exercise and work . After lunch, we take about an hour to tie up any loose ends and clean up. Please bring your own refillable water bottles and lots of ice water.

Join us at our next Birdy Book Club on March 9 in partnership with the Houston Public Library. This meeting's selection is Bird Cottage by Eva Meijer, a novel based on the true story of a remarkable woman, her lifelong relationship with birds, and the joy she drew from it.

Books are selected with the intention of showcasing how birds and books are connected, to foster an environment where readers and birders alike can connect. Copies of this book are available in the Houston Public Library system. Everyone is invited and welcome to join for free!

Bird walks, crafts, games, plant sale, nature store, and more! Member discounts at store.

Join Conservation Specialist Wyatt Egelhoff, and our field technicians to learn all about and assist with the propagation of native Texas plants. If you are already familiar with the process, even better! We would love to have your leadership and expertise on the team. Work days will be every second Thursday: 8:30am - Noon at the Entergy Coastal Natives Nursery at the COOP (2081 Old Mexico Road, High Island, TX 77623).

Please help us on Saturday, March 16th from 9 AM to noon cleaning up the shoreline at Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary. Your efforts will help prepare the sanctuary for the thousands of migrants coming through during spring migration and help provide clean habitat for our beach-nesting birds! Gloves, trash grabbers, and trash bags will be provided. Please bring your reusable water containers, and we’ll have water on-hand for refills. This will be our last chance to clean the beach and dunes prior to the beginning of the Beach-nesting bird season, so we hope to get as much cleaned as possible to give the birds and other wildlife a clean slate going into the summer months. This is also a great time to see migratory waterbirds at Bolivar Flats.

Join us at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary for a morning of sanctuary maintenance. We work 9 AM – 12 PM, once a month on the 3rd Saturday from October through March. Activities can include trail maintenance, litter pick-up, native gardening, and invasive species removal. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded friends! Please make sure to dress appropriately for getting wet and muddy. Bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and work or gardening gloves.

Bear Witness: African American History and Connection to the Land

“Bear Witness” is held each year during the week of Ann Taylor’s birthday. Ann Taylor was born March 20, 1845, and would have been 179 years old this year. This participatory public art experience is designed to introduce the public to Ann Taylor’s life and journey. An artist-led Ancestor Altar will be created to allow for visitors to Ann Taylor’s gravesite to leave messages of love and good will. Along the park’s trail, attendees will bear witness to sound baths and narratives collected in partnership with the Houston Public Library’s (HLP) Gregory School. A hands-on community workshop will be held that helps attendees to make art that archives photos of their ancestors. Visitors will bear witness to the power of Ann Taylor's legacy through the beauty of nature, art and stories shared. Houston Audubon will be highlighting the African American connection to birds through artistry.

No registration is required. This event is the 2nd part of the Witness Series and co-sponsored by Houston Audubon.
