High Island Work Day
Meet us at this internationally known birding hot spot and help us beautify one of our 4 nature sanctuaries here, improving both the visitor infrastructure and wildlife habitat. This is a great opportunity to get outside while making a difference.
Volunteers who help out at High Island Work Days are treated to a delicious meal prepared by our lunch crew.
Work Days are held once a month, October through March on the second Saturday of the month. We start work around 8:30 AM and work until about noon, when we break for lunch, provided by Houston Audubon and prepared by the lunch crew. Lunch at the picnic area of Boy Scout Woods is a good chance to visit with other volunteers and recharge from a morning of exercise and work . After lunch, we take about an hour to tie up any loose ends and clean up. Please bring your own refillable water bottles and lots of ice water.
Super Bird 58
Super Bird is our annual team birding competition held the day before the Super Bowl. Each year, two teams compete to identify the most species at Archbishop Fiorenza Park. The first team to identify 58 species by noon is crowned the winner and given bragging rights. All birding experience levels are welcome, and participants may pick either team to bird with. Free to participate.
We meet at 9:45 AM at the red "X" marked on the map above. The competition starts at 10 AM and lasts till noon.
The address of the park is 3500 Eldridge Pkwy South 77082. For more information: mamorris@houstonaudubon.org
