High Island Sanctuary Workdays

Help us improve both wildlife habitat and visitor infrastructure across our four nature sanctuaries in High Island—Boy Scout Woods, Smith Oaks, Eubanks Woods, and Gast Red Bay. These properties are a haven for birds and people alike, especially during spring migration, attracting visitors from all 50 states and more than 20 countries each year. Nearly 400 bird species have been documented in our sanctuaries, including several never before seen in the U.S.
During these staff-led workdays, volunteers assist with projects like trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, native plantings, boardwalk repair, and general site upkeep. It’s a great opportunity to get outside, connect with nature, and make a lasting difference for birds and birders on the Upper Texas Coast.
After a morning of work, volunteers are treated to a delicious lunch prepared by our volunteer lunch crew! Following lunch and a bit of social time, we typically spend about an hour wrapping up the day.
Sanctuary Workdays are held seasonally, October – May; monthly on the second Saturday, from 8:30 AM – 12 PM. Meet at the Clint and Mary Frances Morse Field Station (2089 5th St, High Island, TX 77623)
