Bolivar Flats Cleanup
Please help us on Saturday, March 5 from 9 AM to noon cleaning up the shoreline at Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary. Your efforts will help prepare the sanctuary for the thousands of migrants coming through during spring migration and help provide clean habitat for our beach-nesting birds! Houston Audubon will provide gloves, grabbers, trash bags, and water to refill your reusable containers. Please dress accordingly for the weather and sun protection.
Please meet at the vehicular barrier located on the beach ~3/4 mile west of Rettilon Rd in Port Bolivar. From the ferry landing, take Highway 87, 3 miles, turn Right on Rettilon Rd, turn right at the beach and drive 3/4 mile to the barrier.

Raptor Center Work Party
Join us at the Raptor and Education Center at Sims Bayou for a morning of gardening and sanctuary maintenance. We work 8AM – 12PM, once a month on the 2nd Saturday, September through May. Activities include trail maintenance, filling bird feeders and baths, litter pick-up, native gardening, and invasive species removal. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and help out in the community! Bring water, sunscreen, bug repellent & gloves. Wear closed-toe shoes & long pants. Bring sack lunch if desired. Children of any age are welcome with their parent/chaperone. (Minimum age without a parent/chaperone is 14 years.) There is a maximum number of 8 participants at a workday.
We will work to ensure that social distancing is maintained and that current public health precautions are being followed for each work party, and we ask that volunteers take an active role in this effort as well.

High Island Work Party
Meet us at this internationally known birding hot spot and help us beautify one of our 4 nature sanctuaries here, improving both the visitor infrastructure and wildlife habitat. This is a great opportunity to get outside while making a difference.
Volunteers who help out at High Island Work Parties are treated to a delicious meal prepared by our lunch crew.
Work parties are held once a month, October through March on the second Saturday of the month. We start work around 8:30 AM and work until about noon, when we break for lunch, provided by Houston Audubon and prepared by the lunch crew. Lunch at the picnic area of Boy Scout Woods is a good chance to visit with other volunteers and recharge from a morning of exercise and work (socially distanced, of course!) . After lunch, we take about an hour to tie up any loose ends and clean up. Please bring your own refillable water bottles and lots of ice water.
COVID Health Considerations
We will be modifying the format of this and all of our volunteer events and will make changes as needed to keep volunteers and staff healthy.

Edith L Moore Nature Sanctuary work day
Join us at the Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary for a morning of sanctuary maintenance. We work 9 AM – 12 PM, once a month on the 3rd Saturday from October through March. Activities can include trail maintenance, litter pick-up, native gardening, and invasive species removal. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded friends! Please make sure to dress appropriately for getting wet and muddy. Bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and work or gardening gloves.
Covid considerations: We are trying to make our volunteer days as normal as possible while being conscious of the health of our volunteers and staff. We will be taking precautions to make the work as safe as we can, and expect volunteers to be a part of that effort. For this reason we are limiting signups to 12 volunteers per event and will be making other modifications to our typical format.
All volunteers must pre-register at least a week in advance using the link below.

BBQ will be provided for all to enjoy as a main course, but please bring a side or sweet treat to contribute potluck style (utensils and plates will be provided). We encourage you to share this invitation with your friends or interested birders as we are still actively recruiting volunteers for High Island shifts through May 22 and would love to have them join us!
The event starts at 11 AM with lunch served at noon.
