The Perch Webinar: Raptors

Note: This quarterly webinar series is for members only. The webinar begins at 7 PM.
Presenter: Wyatt Egelhoff, Houston Audubon Sanctuary Manager
While spring brings with it one of the greatest migratory spectacles in the world to our region, the shortening days of fall portend another equally magnificent example of visible migration: that of diurnal birds of prey (raptors). Making sense of kaleidoscopic shapes whirling amid invisible columns of warming air takes practice. Here we will work through the physical and biological factors of raptor migration, the best places in our region to observe migrating raptors, and the timing/field marks of our many regular raptor species.
Bio: Wyatt Egelhoff is the Sanctuary Manager for Houston Audubon based in High Island and the Bolivar Peninsula since 2022. He has been a student of birds for nearly two decades and relishes the opportunity to live and work in one of the birdiest places in the United States.
