Bird-Friendly Spaces is a FREE program for the entire Houston community to join and actively support birds. The program aims to connect all Houstonians to the wonder and beauty of nature while improving life for birds, people, and our city. This program was developed by Houston Audubon's Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) to be inclusive of people with all different types of spaces. Whether you have acres of land at your workplace or school, a backyard or patio, or a small apartment balcony, everyone can join the Bird-Friendly Spaces Program.

Houston Audubon’s vision is the creation of a healthier natural environment and more beautiful place to live by leading and nurturing a community that values and supports birds. The Bird-Friendly Spaces program will help support birds, provide more accessible opportunities for everyone to experience the wonder and joy of birdwatching, and patch by patch, yard by yard, park by park create important corridors of healthy habitats for birds, butterflies, and other important pollinators.

H-E-B works to champion sustainability initiatives throughout its own operations and through partnerships with environmental organizations across the Lone Star State. “H-E-B is delighted to partner with Houston Audubon to support healthy habitats for birds that contribute to functioning ecosystems,” said Anahi Villarruel, Project Manager H-E-B Environmental Affairs. The Bird-Friendly Spaces Program offered by Houston Audubon is an important step in taking action to support birds and other wildlife in your own personal space.

Houston Audubon’s Bird-Friendly Spaces website makes it easy for people to become a part of a growing movement of Houstonians trying to do what they can for the health of the planet. The website takes you through the steps to begin your journey with articles, videos, and events that will assist everyone in making their spaces more bird-friendly. Participants are recognized for their wildlife efforts with badges (stickers) for each action achieved, an opportunity to purchase a yard sign to display the badges earned, monthly newsletter subscription with advice on how to make your space bird-friendly, upcoming event announcements, and access to a Facebook group to connect with others in the program.
