Volunteer Appreciation Picnic 2018

The weather was great on February 17, 2018, at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary. Every year we get together to honor and thank our volunteers.

Here are some of the numbers that show what is going on:

We counted 979 Houston Audubon and Audubon Docent Guild programs delivered last year.

The various education programs reached over 47,000 people.

We had 28,300 sanctuary visitors from 48 states (only North Dakota and Rhode Island weren’t represented!) and 18 countries.

Last year we sold 4,500 Native plants from the Natives Nursery.

We could not do a fraction of what we do without volunteers. We have 13 staff members, but last year we had 743 volunteers contribute 14,032 hours of work!

We all know it is not just quantity of volunteers, but quality! People who volunteer over the years become even more invaluable as they learn the culture of Houston Audubon and contribute their time and talents.

This occasion also included the presentation of the Laura Singleton Exceptional Volunteer Award for 2017 to Julie d'Ablaing.
