High Island Work Party
Meet us at this internationally known birding hot spot and help us beautify one of our 4 nature sanctuaries here, improving both the visitor infrastructure and wildlife habitat. This is a great opportunity to get outside while making a difference.
Volunteers who help out at High Island Work Parties are treated to a delicious meal prepared by our lunch crew.
Work parties are held once a month, October through March on the second Saturday of the month. We start work around 8:30 AM and work until about noon, when we break for lunch, provided by Houston Audubon and prepared by the lunch crew. Lunch at the picnic area of Boy Scout Woods is a good chance to visit with other volunteers and recharge from a morning of exercise and work (socially distanced, of course!) . After lunch, we take about an hour to tie up any loose ends and clean up. Please bring your own refillable water bottles and lots of ice water.
COVID Health Considerations
We will be modifying the format of this and all of our volunteer events and will make changes as needed to keep volunteers and staff healthy.
Wetland Walkabout - canceled
This event has been canceled due to the weather. We hope to schedule it at a later date.
Join our staff and YPAC members at Exploration Green's Wetland Walkabout on February 13 to chat about birds, win goodies, and join socially-distanced bird walks! Our Pop-up Birding Station features educational materials and a prize wheel with stickers, pet bandanas, tote bags, Popsockets, and other giveaways! Houston Audubon will also have knowledgeable birders to talk to chat with, and can lead short, socially distanced, guided bird walks for small groups!

CANCELED - Raptor Center Work Party
Join us at the Raptor and Education Center at Sims Bayou for a morning of gardening and sanctuary maintenance. We work 8AM – 12PM, once a month on the 2nd Saturday, September through May. Activities include trail maintenance, filling bird feeders and baths, litter pick-up, native gardening, and invasive species removal. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and help out in the community! Bring water, sunscreen, bug repellent & gloves. Wear closed-toe shoes & long pants. Bring sack lunch if desired. Children of any age are welcome with their parent/chaperone. (Minimum age without a parent/chaperone is 14 years.) There is a maximum number of 8 participants at a workday.
We will work to ensure that social distancing is maintained and that current public health precautions are being followed for each work party, and we ask that volunteers take an active role in this effort as well.

Young Professionals Bird Nerd Trivia Night
Online registration has closed. Please email ypac@houstonaudubon.org if you'd like to participate and we will be happy to register you.
---
In honor of National Wildlife Day (and Steve Irwin's birthday!), Houston Audubon's 2021 Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) is hosting a virtual bird-themed trivia night for Houston-area young professionals!
Regardless of your birding acumen, you're welcome to join us for an evening of quizzing, arguing, and celebrating. Don't worry about hitting the field guides ahead of time, for any and all bird-related topics are fair game: bird idioms and bird art, bird law and bird orders, Big Bird and Larry Bird, bird brains and bird quarters (well, bird houses).
We invite you to enjoy a birdy evening with this year's YPAC flock!
Free to attend; suggested $5 donation.
Registration closes at 11:55 PM on February 21, 2021. To register, use link below.
