Last year Houston came in first in the U.S. for the highest number of species identified (and third in the world). Participate in the City Nature Challenge and help us defend our title! The Challenge will be held April 24 – May 3, 2020. The regional kickoff event is on April 22 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Natives Nursery Open House - online

Friday, May 1, 20208:00 amSaturday, May 2, 20205:00 pm
Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary

Our annual Natives Nursery Open House will have a different look this spring - we are bringing the sale online!

Here’s how the sale works:

May 1 & 2 – The online store opens at 8 AM on May 1st and remains open until 5 PM on May 2. You will be able to go online and order plants from our inventory. Plants will be officially reserved for you once you have checked out through the online platform. After you have checked out, we will send you an email to select a time slot for the curbside pick-up the following weekend.

May 8 & 9 – Plants purchased online will be ready and available for pick-up on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9. We ask that you only pick up your plants during your pre-determined 2-hour time slot to avoid a big rush of pick-ups! Plant pick-up will occur at our Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, located at 440 Wilchester Blvd.

Please Note: Our plants are all “real-deal” native plants and may look different than the picture. We will do our best to give you the best possible plants available, but we won’t have the ability to swap plants out at pick-up or accept returns. Purchasers will not be able to pick their individual plants. All plant sales are final. When purchasing, items in your cart are not held until you complete check out. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Anna Vallery at avallery@houstonaudubon.org

Activities include trail maintenance, filling bird feeders and baths, litter pick-up, native gardening, and invasive species removal. It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded friends! Bring water, sunscreen, bug repellent & gloves/clippers if you have them. Wear closed-toe shoes & long pants. Bring sack lunch if desired. Children of any age are welcome with their parent/chaperone. (Minimum age without a parent/chaperone is 14 years.) There is a maximum number of 15 participants at a workday.

Birdathon Awards Celebration - canceled

You've birded, you've fundraised, and now it's time for you to celebrate! Birdathon participants, family, friends, and donors are invited to the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary for our 2020 Birdathon Awards Celebration. This year, we have 7 prize categories that will be given and participants will be recognized for all the hard work they have displayed over the past couple of months.

Event parking is available at the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church that borders the Edith Moore Sanctuary. Please park on the west side of the lot along the fence, and you will see a direct entrance to the sanctuary (please do not walk along Memorial Drive). Once through the gate, you'll see a sign directing you to the cabin. It is a short 2-3 minute walk.

This workshop is free and open to the public. Please register using the button on the top right of this page.

Thank you to Fajita Pete's for sponsoring the food at the Birdathon Party!
