Gary Olson Celebration of Life

Our hearts are heavy at the passing of our dear friend Gary Olson. We hope you can come and join us this Wednesday at Houston Audubon’s Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary to celebrate a life well lived. Gary was a long time member of Houston Audubon and active with numerous birding organizations around Houston in addition to many other nature and history groups. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served his country proudly. The celebration will be at the Edith L. Moore log cabin and is from 7 to 9 PM. Parking is available at the church parking lot next to the sanctuary.

North Jetty Cleanup
The North Jetty at the southeast end of 17th Street in Port Bolivar is adjacent to Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary and is a popular recreation destination. Unfortunately many people who use the jetty aren't good about properly disposing of trash, and it winds up between the rocks of the jetty. High tides float the trash out of the rocks and from there into the sanctuary. It is easiest to get the trash when it is in the jetty. Houston Audubon is planning a cleanup Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 9 AM to Noon to gather the trash and the fishing line that is often such a hazard to our local wildlife, and we could sure use your help. Meet us at the base of the jetty and we will provide you with gloves, trash grabbers, and bags. If you plan to attend please bring your own refillable water bottles, wear sturdy shoes or boots that can get muddy or wet and wear clothing that will protect you from the sun and the mosquitoes (hat, sunglasses, etc.)
