Houston Audubon celebrated 50 years of bird conservation at their Golden Anniversary Gala held at the beautiful Astorian on October 17, 2019.
Highlights of the event included a silent auction, an up-close and personal bird experience with Houston Audubon’s education raptors including a green-screen photo op, a formal dinner, and a video highlighting the organization’s milestones and accomplishments from the last 50 years.
Since 1969, Houston Audubon has been the voice for birds, and has served the Greater Houston region and beyond through land conservation, habitat restoration, education, and advocacy. Ensuring a sustainable future for almost 3,500 acres of bird and wildlife habitat owned by Houston Audubon, the organization established the Land and Facilities Stewardship Endowment Fund in 2018. Proceeds from the Fund-a-Need portion of the Gala will support this important fund.
“As we think about the next 50 years and the ongoing challenges birds continue to face and the need to ensure that nature is a part of the daily lives of future generations, we are compelled to do what we can now to provide a sustainable stewardship plan for the future,” said Helen Drummond, Executive Director.
