Description: Red Mulberry is fast-growing attractive small tree. It grows well in both sunny and shady locations. It is also tolerant of varying soil conditions. Only female plants have berries.
The Wildlife Connection: The berries are much sought after by birds and other wildlife. Mulberries are an important food source for spring migrants as testified by this Summer Tanager. Many butterflies and other insects are attracted to this tree. It is the larval host for the mourning cloak butterfly.
