Description: Good shade tree. Young branches have corky wings. Leaves are small and rough. Foliage turns yellow in fall. Tolerant of a wide range of soil types including clay. Very drought tolerant. Flowers and set seeds in fall.
The Wildlife Connection: Seeds attract seed-eating birds and other wildlife. Larval host to question mark and mourning cloak butterflies.
