The Basic Elements of a Bird-Friendly Habitat
-
WaterAdding a water feature to your landscape is one of the best ways to attract birds. There are many different types for all spaces and budgets: bubbling rock, shallow pond, bird bath, simple tray or bird drip. Be sure to keep the water feature clean!

ShelterBirds need plants for shelter from predators and the weather as well as to build nests. Shrubs, trees, and grasses are all used by various species. You can help cavity nesters such as Eastern Screech Owls and Carolina Chickadees by providing nest boxes.

FoodSeeds, berries, insects -- they all count! Provide natural sources by planting native plants. You can supplement natural foods with feeders. Feeders for black oil sunflower seed, suet, and hummingbird nectar are the most popular.
