This critical community science effort gathers data that will help scientists evaluate population changes and understand which species might require special management. Survey leaders engage participants of all birding skills, and it’s a great way to be introduced to the joys of birdwatching! The site is a 17.5 acre bird sanctuary located along Rummel Creek in Memorial, with about 1.5 miles of trails, that also serves as the headquarters for the Houston Audubon staff, and Native Plant Nursery. ELMNS is a mixed pine-hardwood forest with poorly drained clay soils, and an artificial wetland pumped in from the creek. Remember to bring a reusable water bottle, dress for the weather, and bring binoculars and/or a camera if you have them. Houston Audubon will have a limited number of binoculars available to borrow. Meet in front of the historic Edith L. Moore log cabin.

Access and parking are available at the sanctuary's east gate in the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church parking lot (12955 Memorial). Please follow the signs to the cabin.
