White-rumped Sandpiper
White-rumped Sandpiper
Calidris fuscicollis
Family: (Scolopacidae) Sandpipers
Preferred Habitat: Wet fields, marshy edges of mudflats.
Seasonal Occurrence: Uncommon in spring.
Notes: White-rumped Sandpipers occur in small numbers in the spring (late April - May) along the Upper Texas Coast. Despite the name, the rump is actually dark. The white feathers seen at the base of the tail are the upper tail coverts. Males and females look alike.
