Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary in High Island, Texas
Experience the High Island Rookery from a new perspective. Our annual spring fundraiser, Evening on the Canopy, offers guests an exclusive after-hours visit to Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary during peak migration.
The evening begins with an open-air reception featuring food and drinks in our historic pumphouse. Following the reception, guests will move to the Kathrine G. McGovern Canopy Walkway for a presentation by Houston Audubon staff about the spectacular birds nesting in the Rookery. As the sun sets, witness the unforgettable sight of hundreds of colonial waterbirds returning to their roosts from the best vantage point in the sanctuary.

* Private chartered bus departs from the Heights Wal-Mart at Yale St @ I-10. Please arrive by 3 pm for a 3:30 pm departure. The bus will likely return to Houston at 8:30 pm.
