North Jetty Clean-up
Saturday, February 17, 9 AM - Noon
The North Jetty at the southeast end of 17th Street in Port Bolivar is adjacent to Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary and is a popular recreation destination. Unfortunately many people who use the jetty aren't good about properly disposing of trash, and it winds up between the rocks of the jetty. High tides float the trash out of the rocks and from there into the sanctuary. It is easiest to get the trash when it is in the jetty, so if you enjoy doing much needed jobs, we need your help. Meet us at the base of the jetty and we will provide you with bags, trash grabbers, gloves and water. Houston Audubon will provide bags, gloves and water. Meet us on the beach at the vehicular barrier. If you have any questions contact Pete Deichmann at firstname.lastname@example.org.
High Island Workdays
Workdays are held once a month, October through March on the second Saturday of the month. We start work around 8:30 AM and work until about noon, when we break for lunch, provided by Houston Audubon and prepared by the lunch crew. Lunch at the picnic area of Boy Scout Woods is a good chance to visit with other volunteers and recharge from a morning of exercise and work. After lunch, we take about an hour to tie up any loose ends and clean up.
Come be a part of sanctuary maintenance, habitat restoration, and Houston Audubon's amazing volunteer workforce. Email Pete Deichmann at email@example.com for more information or to be put on the email list.
