Common Nighthawk

New Education Assistant Jeanette Lambert

I am so happy to be joining the awesome Education team at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center and all the staff at Houston Audubon. As a kid, I attended programs, events, and volunteered at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center before it was donated to Houston Audubon. My parents always encouraged my siblings and I to spend time outdoors and fueled our curiosity with nature by taking us camping every chance they got. All throughout high school I volunteered at Sims Bayou Urban Nature center where I helped Mary Anne Weber with summer camps. It was during one of those summers that I realized this is what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to teach children and show them the beauty and wonders of nature. I wanted them to be just as passionate and amazed by animals and the environment as I was.

After high school, I attended Stephen F. Austin State University where I graduated this past May with a Bachelor of Science in forestry with a concentration in recreation management. The summer before my junior year of college, I was offered an internship with Houston Audubon. During my internship, I assisted in outreach and education programs and summer camps. It only solidified my decision in pursuing a career in environmental outreach and education. I was ecstatic when Houston Audubon extended an offer for a full-time position with them after my graduation. I’ve always loved animals, working with kids, and being outdoors and I can’t believe I’m now able to say I get to do all these things as my job!
