The Houston Audubon Gala, Destination High Island was a huge success. Thank you to all our guests, donors and especially our gala honorary chair, Ann Wier McNamara Jones and our gala co-chairs, Caroline Staub Callery and Sara Morse Bettencourt.
High Island is considered by many to be one of the top birding destinations in the world. Even better, this gem is in our own backyard. For all those that were unable to see the Gala video about High Island, we want to share it with you. Please take a few minutes to view all the wonders of High Island.
A huge thank you to Jeff Mills for creating this video and for Steve Smith for narrating.
Houston Audubon’s conserved lands are world-renowned nature sanctuaries for birds, other wildlife, and people. We own and manage 17 sanctuaries and stand committed to the perpetual stewardship of these and future land acquisitions.
The money raised at this year’s Fund-a-Need will support Houston Audubon’s land stewardship program. A robust program with dedicated funding is critical to an accredited land trust that upholds the highest standards in land conservation.
Our program covers all aspects of property management including:
- habitat restoration
- invasive species control
- property taxes
- liability and property insurance
- infrastructure maintenance
- wildlife surveys
- property monitoring
- vegetation monitoring
- trash management
- parking areas
