Family: (Trochilidae) Hummingbirds

Preferred Habitat: Gardens anywhere suitable flowers are found.

Seasonal Occurrence: Very common March through May and mid-July through mid-October. Uncommon summer and winter.

Notes: Particularly common in Houston during fall and spring migration (August - October and March - May). Some remain here and breed in the summer, and there are a very few who over-winter. Both sexes have green plumage, but only the adult male has a crimson throat.
