Preferred Habitat: Close to water

Seasonal Occurrence: Abundant in all seasons. Nests in our area.

Notes: The Great Blue Heron is one of our largest birds and makes a striking presence hunting in Houston's bayous. Typically it is solitary. It may be found in any area containing enough water to hunt. During breeding season adult birds have ornate plumes on the head, neck and back. Juvenile birds have black crowns.
