Galveston Offshore Windfarm

Houston Audubon and other conservation organizations have participated in two meetings with the company that plans to install two wind and bird monitoring towers to determine the feasibility of constructing a windfarm 7-9 miles south of Galveston.

HAS supports alternate energy sources but has serious concerns about bird mortality due to the millions of migrants that cross the Gulf of Mexico twice each year. Discussions are underway to form a coalition to review and comment on monitoring plans and data provided by the monitoring towers.

More information can be found on the General Land Office website and in the March 3, 2006 Galveston Daily News article.
