Padre, the Peregrine Falcon

by Mary Anne Weber, Education Director

PadrePadre is an American Peregrine Falcon, which is considered one of the world’s fastest birds. They have been known to fly at speeds up to 90 miles per hour. Padre was found underneath power lines in Galveston during a Christmas Bird Count and, despite treatment for several injuries, is unable to fly. He nonetheless has a remarkable presence and makes a powerful impression on young and old alike.

The Peregrine Falcon was considered an endangered species until 1999, but few students know about or understand why or how birds become endangered. Padre serves as a special ambassador for all birds because he sparks discussions about endangered species and conservation in classrooms wherever he goes.

Please consider a donation for his care by participating in the Adopt-A-Bird program. In exchange for your generous help, you will receive a beautiful 5"x7" photo of Padre and a special adoption certificate. (Please allow two weeks for processing.) Donations go toward food, upkeep of aviaries and vet check-ups. Thanks for your help.
