Post-Ike Recovery Clean-up

High Island Work Days - November 15, December 13
We need lots of help with cleanups. We work from 8 AM to 2 PM, but volunteers are welcome whenever they show up. HAS supplies lunch, water and some tools. Please bring your favorite tools along. Participants need to sign up in advance with Winnie Burkett. See the Sanctuary Blog for reports on the sanctuaries and a report on the first work day.

Horseshoe Marsh Work Day - November 8
There are lots of boards and other debris to pick up and take to the road. It will be dirty challenging work so we will supply heavy gloves, water, and lunch. We'll work 8 AM - noon. Please make sure you have had a tetanus shot and dress in long sleeves, long pants and stout shoes. You must RSVP to participate in this work day as we have to know how many people are going through the check point at Rollover Pass. To RSVP email Winnie Burkett.

Dos Vacas Muertas - November 22
There is a large amount of storm debris at Houston Audubon's Dos Vacas Muertas Bird Sanctuary on West Galveston Island. (Map and Directions) We are planning a work day for Saturday, November 22 from 9 until noon. Please let Flo Hannah know if you can join us. If anyone would like to carpool, please contact Andrew Beck. Houston Audubon will provide sandwiches and drinks for a picnic lunch. Hope to see you there. See the Sanctuary Blog for more information on conditions at Dos Vacas Muertas.

Bolivar Flats Cleanup - December 6
Galveston County cleaned all the heavy trash off the beach, but we still have boards and plastic in the vegetation that need to be removed. We will supply heavy gloves, water and lunch. We'll work 8 AM - noon. Please make sure you have had a tetanus shot and dress in long sleeves, long pants and stout shoes. You must RSVP to participate in this work day as we are not sure of the logistics. Supposedly the bridge over Rollover Pass will be completed by Dec 1, but .... To RSVP email Winnie Burkett.

Coastal Work Day - December 20
We'll work at the sanctuary which needs the most work. Please check back for details.

Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center Gardens

Please join us Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 9 AM and Noon. We need help in our wildlife gardens, organic vegetable garden, and on the trails. No experience is necessary and we will provide all the training, tools and refreshments. Please contact Katerina Graham, 713-640-2407, for more information and to volunteer.
