Do you enjoy being outdoors and sharing your love of nature with others? Then, please join us at our
Fall Docent Training on Saturday, October 11th, 9 AM - 12 PM.
The Audubon Docent Guild is a group of volunteers who lead nature education and conservation programs at the Houston Audubon Society's
Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary. We conduct guided tours of the Sanctuary for school groups; weekly nature story hours for preschoolers; children's nature-theme birthday parties; night-time owl prowls; nature day camps; and outreach programs in school classrooms and public libraries. We also have opportunities on our Tuesday Trail Crew here at the Sanctuary.
Opportunities are available both weekdays and weekends, and the commitment is as little as 2 hours a month ... or as much as you 'd like!
The Fall Audubon Docent Guild Training will include:
- Introduction to the History and Ecology of the Edith L Moore Nature Sanctuary
- Houston Audubon Society Programs and Volunteer Opportunities
- Audubon Docent Guild Educational Programs Overview
- Interpretive Hike through the Edith L Moore Sanctuary Grounds
- Hands-on Environmental Education Games and Activities
At the training, you can fill out a volunteer application and schedule a time to 'tagalong' for one of our programs.
Audubon Docent Guild membership dues are $20.00 and include the docent training manual; monthly newsletter subscription; and invitations to social events, field trips and educational seminars.
