  About Houston Audubon

Who We Are

We are one of the largest and most active chapters of the National Audubon Society. Houston Audubon is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and is supported by member dues and donations from individuals, foundations and corporations. We receive limited funding from National Audubon Society and no funds from the city or state government. Contributions made to us remain in our 10-county area and support our activities. Our mission is to "promote the conservation and appreciation of birds and wildlife habitat."

What We Do

Like to Learn More?

Visit Us at Our Sanctuaries.

Our headquarters is at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary in west Houston. It's open daily and there is no charge. Our friendly staff and volunteers are happy to answer your questions. You can also reach us by telephone Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Among our other sanctuaries, Bolivar Flats and High Island are internationally famous for their importance to birds. During peak spring migration season, we have volunteers at High Island to assist birdwatchers. They are always happy to help beginners! High Island birders

Our Membership Meetings and Field Trips are open to the general public and are free of charge. We also have a Galveston County Group which welcomes everyone to their meetings and field trips.

Interested in Children's Activities?

The Education Department and Audubon Docent Guild provide a wide variety of programs at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center and Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, including guided tours, nature camps, school field trips, home school, preschool activities, owl prowls, and nature-theme birthday parties. Mary Anne Weber

Want Us to Visit You?

Our Education Coordinator, Mary Anne Weber, has designed a series of Outreach Programs about the natural world of birds. She is ably assisted by her teaching birds, 6 live hawks and owls, which she has rehabilitated. Together they log hundreds of miles each year, visiting schools, groups and festivals.
