Owl prowls begin with a program on owls and an opportunity to meet live, rehabilitated owls in the Sanctuary’s log cabin. Then we take recordings of screech owl calls out onto the Sanctuary’s wooded trails in hopes of attracting the attention of neighborhood screech owls who are busy setting up their territories in preparation for nesting in early March.
- Owl prowls begin at 7:00 PM and we will be through – owl sightings or not! – by 9:00 PM.
- We ask a donation of $6.00 per person on an owl prowl, payable in advance.
- All prowlers must be at least 6 years old.
- Dress for walking in the woods – including insect repellant.
- Adults, bring a flashlight – to be used "just in case." (Kids get too excited with flashlights and tend to scare any interested owls away.)
- Maximum number of participants on an owl prowl is twenty-six or so. (An army tromping through the woods isn’t very owl-effective.)
- Maximum number of reservations permitted per family or group is four. (This keeps one group from taking over an entire owl prowl.)
