Ringed Turtle-Dove

Streptopelia roseogrisea

Family: (Columbidae) Pigeons and Doves

Preferred Habitat: Suburbs.

Seasonal Occurrence: Uncommon permanent resident in our area.

Notes: Ringed Turtle-Doves hybridize with Eurasian Collared-Doves, making positive identification difficult. In general, Eurasian Collared-Doves are much more common. Ringed Turtle-Doves in the United States are basically a domestic species and do not easily survive in the wild. The photo by Mark Kulstad shows a Ringed Turtle-Dove that is quite white, with light primaries, white undertail coverts and little or no black showing on the underside of the tail. The photo was taken inside the I610 Loop, in West University Place, on College St., just north of Tennyson St.
