Branta Canadensis

Family: (Anatidae) Ducks, Geese, and Swans

Preferred Habitat: Fields and just about anywhere near water.

Seasonal Occurrence: Common in winter.

IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern

Notes: Canada Geese on the Upper Texas Coast are not as abundant as they are in other areas of the country. They particularly like to feed on wide lawn areas, such as those found on golf courses and airports. There they can feed on grass and have unobstructed views of predators. The trend of many subdivisions to maintain lawns right up to the edge of lakes is particularly inviting to Canada Geese.
