Purple Martins at Willowbrook Mall

July 29 Press Release

Every evening around 8:15 PM there is an amazing natural phenomenon taking place near Willowbrook Mall. As dusk arrives at the busy shopping area, tens of thousands of Purple Martins (small insect eating birds) descend on live oak trees surrounding the Starbucks on 1960. The sky is almost black with birds darting, circling, and weaving as they catch their last meal on the wing before settling in to the oaks.[More]
 


Opportunity for Galveston Co. Residents to Participate in Galveston County's Master Plan for Parks, Conservation, and Natural Resources

Galveston County is beginning work and seeking input for its third Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The important difference in this Master Plan is the focus on natural resources and conservation. Beginning next Tuesday, July 2, Galveston County will sponsor four public meetings to receive questions and comments from Galveston County residents.[More]
