Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor)

Bird Gallery Index

Tufted Titmouse Tufted Titmouse image © Alan Murphy

Family: (Paridae ) Chickadees and Titmice

Preferred Habitat: Woodlands

Seasonal Occurrence: Abundant in all seasons. Nests in our area.

Notes: Often found in mixed flocks with Carolina Chickadees, the Tufted Titmouse is a familiar sight in our woodlands. Males and females look alike. They readily accept sunflower seed at bird feeders. The Tufted Titmouse has a varied repertoire: its song is a whistled Peeto-peeto-peeto; its calls include harsh scolds and high-pitched seeer. Tufted Titmice use a tree cavity or nesting box to construct their nest.
